[ACTUALIZACIÓN OCTUBRE 2017: Por los hecho de público conocimiento el diseñador de los zapatos «SAVOY by Max Angelo», Abel Susín, anunció que el lindyhopper no estará más al frente de la marca y que ahora el nombre de la marca de zapatos es «SAVOY Cats». The Lindy Blog decidió conservar la entrevista realizada al bailarín pero se manifiesta en contra de los hechos sucedidos y vela por evitar este tipo de abusos en la pista de baile y en la sociedad en general.]

ABRIL 2016: En su última visita en Buenos Aires tomé clases de Lindy Hop -como hago cada verano- con, en mi opinión, uno de los mejores bailarines de Lindy Hop del mundo, Max Pitruzzella. Antes de que se fuera tuve la oportunidad de hacerle algunas preguntas acerca de su colección de zapatos: SAVOY by Max Angelo (y algunas cositas más…). Espero lo disfruten:

Lindy Blog: ¿Por qué decidiste lanzar tu propia colección de zapatos?

Max Angelo Pitruzzella: Porque estaba cansado de los putos malos zapatos. Así que creé mis propios zapatos.

LB: ¿Cuál creés que es la relación entre la calidad en un par de zapatos, estar cómodo, y lucir bien en la pista de baile?

MA: Mirá, es fácil lucir bien con zapatos de mierda, ¿no? solo combinás el color o lo que sea. Pero los zapatos de calidad son importantes porque te vas a sentir bien [usándolos] y [por lo tanto] no vas a estar pensando en el modo en que te sentís, y solo te vas a concentrar en lo tuyo [bailar].

LB: ¿Cuán importante es el estilo para un lindyhoper?

MA: No creo que sea importante. Vos te podés vestir del modo que quieras… pero al final, si bailo con pantalones de vestir o con joggings me hace sentir diferente. En un traje me voy a sentir bien porque siento que estoy acorde con el baile, ¿no? Porque es un baile que es antiguo, vintage, como quieras llamarlo. Si me pongo la misma ropa que un tipo que baila hip hop no bailaría del mismo modo. Así que supongo que [al final] es bastante importante…

LB: ¿Cómo ves la escena del Lindy Hop hoy en día?

MA: Bastante bien. Hoy en día, 2016, como que siempre veo tres líneas de profesores; los tipos que vienen enseñando desde hace mucho tiempo, y siguen ahí. Después está la segunda línea y la tercera línea. Pero siento que la gente está demasiado perezosa… especialmente la primera línea. Yo siempre trato de rendir al máximo cada vez, para mejorar el baile.

LB: ¿Cómo te sentís siendo una inspiración para la escena del Lindy Hop?

MA: Lo que acabás de decir suena realmente muy bien, pero no me siento como “una inspiración”. Yo bailo porque tengo inspiración: es Frankie Manning, Al Minns, mis amigos, como Thomas Blacharz, o Dax (Hock) u otros. Por eso bailo, porque amo bailar y quiero bailar cada vez mejor. No estoy tratando “de ser”… así que no me siento una inspiración.

LB: Está bien, pero sabés que por ejemplo buscamos en YouTube… buscando inspiración…

MA: Sí lo sé, todos los días recibo muchos mails del estilo “Soy un gran fan tuyo” y cosas como esa, pero realmente no me siento así. Es difícil estar al tanto de estas cosas.

LB: Contame acerca del proceso de diseño de los zapatos.

MA: Para mí, el diseño fue muy fácil, porque el diseño es el diseño… lo que era importante era el material, ¿no? Yo quería [zapatos] ciento por ciento cuero, nada de plástico ni porquerías, los cordones tenían que estar ajustados… tenían que ser, digamos, de puta madre, ¿no? Así que el diseño fue muy fácil.

Tengo algunos colegas, amigos, de Barcelona, de Cataluña, que se acercaron y me dijeron “Sí, conozco a unos tipos del sur de España que se especializan en caballos… hacen todo tipo de cosas de cuero para los caballos”. Y después surgieron grandes nombres como Clark’s y Church’s. Entonces yo pensé “Bien, esas son compañías con calidad de la puta madre”, y probé de hacer algo con ellas. Y después de eso fue como “esto es calidad”.

LB: ¡Gracias Max! ¿Algo más que le quieras decir a la comunidad del Lindy Hop?

MA: Paren de ser falsos y pónganse a bailar, mierda. Los amo.

Le iba a preguntar acerca de zapatos para mujeres, pero después de esa frase, perdón… sentí que ya era suficiente 😉 (De todos modos fueron subidas hace poco algunas fotos de chicas usando botas SAVOY, ¡sí!)

Lindy Blog: Why did you decide to start your own shoe collection?

Max Angelo Pitruzella: Because I was tired of fucking bad shoes. So I just created my own shoes.

LB: What do you think is the relationship between quality in a pair of shoes, being comfortable, and looking good on the dancefloor?

MA: I mean, it is easy to look good with bullshit shoes, right? You just match the color, or whatever. But quality shoes are really important because you’re going to feel good [wearing them] and [therefore] you’re not going think about the way you feel, so you’re just going to do the thing you do [dance]. So it is way more important.

LB: How important is style for a lindyhoper?

MA: I don’t think it’s important. You can dress the way you want… but in the end, like, if I dance in a suit or if I dance on sweatpants it makes me feel different. In a suit, I’m going to feel good ‘cause I feel I match the dance, right? Because it’s a really old dance, vintage or whatever, but it’s the way it is. If I wear the same clothes as a hip hop guy, I wouldn’t dance the same. so I guess [in the end] it is kind of important…

LB: How do you see the international Lindy Hop scene, nowadays?

MA: Really ok. Nowadays, in 2016, I’m always, like, seeing three lines of teachers; the guys who have been teaching for very long time, and are still there. Then, there’s the second line and the third line. But I feel like people now are fucking lazy… especially the first line. I always try to push myself harder, to make the dance better.

LB: How do you feel about being an inspiration for the lindy hop scene?

MA: What you’ve just said sounds really good, but I don’t see myself as «being an inspiration». I’m dancing because I have inspiration: it is Frankie Manning, Al Minns, my friends, like Thomas Blacharz, or Dax (Hock), or whatever. That’s why I dance, ‘cause I love to dance and I want to make the dance better. I’m not trying ‘to be’… so I don’t feel as an inspiration.

LB: Ok, but you know that for example we look on YouTube… looking for inspiration…

MA: Oh I know, every day I receive many mails like «I’m a big fan of yours» and many stuff like that, but I don’t feel as such. It’s hard to be aware about these things.

LB: Tell me about the design process of the shoes.

MA: For me, the design was really easy, because the design is the design… what was important was the material, right? So I wanna’ hundred per cent leather, no plastic, no bullshit, the shoe laces have to be tight… it has to be, like, fucking good, right? So the design was really easy.

I have some colleagues, friends, from Barcelona, Catalonia, who approached me and said «Yeah, I know some guys from south Spain that specialize in horses… they do all things-leather from the horse». And then big names like Clark’s and Church’s came up. So I was like «Ok, that’s fucking good-quality companies», and I just tried to do something with them. And after that I was like «that’s quality».

LB: Thank you Max! Something else, you what to say to the Lindy Hop community?

MA: Stop being fake, and fucking dance. I love you.

I would like to ask him about shoes for women but, after that last line, sorry… I thought it was enough 😉 (However some pictures of girls wearing SAVOY boots were posted recently at SAVOY FB page, yay!)
